Heights Plumbing, Heating & Cooling replaces and services water softeners for homes throughout North Jersey. If your existing softener has stopped regenerating, is leaking, or is simply worn out, we swap it for a properly sized unit and get the settings right.

We are family owned and operated, licensed and insured in New Jersey, with 56 years of industry experience. You get honest advice about whether a softener is the right answer for your water, and upfront pricing before we touch a wrench.

Scale, Spots and Soap That Will Not Lather

Hard water leaves calcium and magnesium behind on everything it touches. You see it as spotting on glassware, crust on shower heads and faucet aerators, stiff laundry, and soap that never quite rinses off your skin.

The expensive part happens where you cannot see it. Scale coats the inside of water heater tanks, tankless heat exchangers, boiler components and dishwasher elements, which means more energy to do the same job and a shorter equipment life. A softener that has quit regenerating leaves you with all of that and a salt tank full of unused salt.

What Our Water Softener Replacement Includes

We test hardness first, then size the replacement to your household size and daily water use so the unit regenerates on a sensible schedule instead of wasting salt and water. We inspect the existing plumbing, bypass valve, drain line and electrical, and correct anything that was done poorly the first time around.

The installation covers removal and disposal of the old softener, new connections with a working bypass, a properly air-gapped drain line, brine tank setup, programming the control head, and a full regeneration cycle to confirm the system works. We then retest the water so you can see the difference.

Signs You May Need Water Softener Replacement

  • White scale on faucets and shower heads
  • Spotted glassware straight out of the dishwasher
  • Soap and shampoo will not lather
  • Salt level in the brine tank never drops
  • Softener runs but water still feels hard
  • Salt bridging or a crusted brine tank
  • Leaks around the valve head or tank
  • Unit is 10 to 15 years old or older

Noticing any of these? Call (201) 245-7772 or request service online. Same-day appointments across North Jersey.

Our Water Softener Replacement Process

  1. Test the water

We measure hardness and check for iron or other issues that would change the recommendation.

  2. Size the system

We size grain capacity to your hardness and household demand so the unit regenerates efficiently rather than constantly.

  3. Quote upfront

You get the full price for the unit, removal of the old softener and the installation before we begin.

  4. Remove and install

We pull the old unit, install the new softener with bypass, drain and brine connections, and program the control head.

  5. Test and hand off

We run a regeneration cycle, retest the water, and show you how to add salt and adjust settings.

Water Softener Options We Offer

Standard salt-based softeners

Ion exchange softeners in the capacities that fit most single-family homes, sized to your actual hardness.

High-efficiency metered units

These regenerate based on water used rather than a fixed clock, which cuts salt and water waste.

Softener and filtration combinations

Pairing a softener with sediment or carbon filtration when the water has taste, odor or particulate issues as well as hardness.

Brine tank and control valve repair

When the tank is fine and only the valve head or float has failed, we repair instead of replacing the whole system.

Relocation and re-piping

If the softener sits in an awkward spot or was piped incorrectly, we can move it and correct the plumbing and drain.

Water Softeners FAQs

Do I actually need a softener in North Jersey?

It depends on your specific supply. Hardness varies by town and by source. We test before recommending anything, and if your water does not warrant a softener we will say so.

Will softened water taste salty?

No. A properly set softener exchanges hardness minerals for a small amount of sodium. It does not make the water taste salty, though people on restricted sodium diets sometimes add a reverse osmosis tap for drinking.

Can you repair my softener instead of replacing it?

Sometimes. Control valves, floats and injectors can be serviced. Once the resin is exhausted or the unit is well past a decade, replacement is usually the better value.

Does a softener remove chlorine taste?

No. Softeners address hardness. For chlorine taste and odor you want carbon filtration, which we often install alongside the softener.

How much salt will it use?

That depends on your hardness, water use and whether the unit is metered. A correctly sized, metered softener uses noticeably less salt than an older timer-based unit.
